Which I find sort of strange coming from a traditional opinion of dating. But looking at the figures, I was quite shocked to find that there are literally hundreds of thousands of people who are dating online, regardless of their sexual orientation and shared interests. So this article should really be ‘plenty of fish from different schools dating around’ – and thus we come to the reason why the internet is becoming such a place to date and find companionship.
This is because of the nature of the internet, it as an entity is completely indiscriminate and is a space that allows for all interests, all sections of society to be represented. Even if you have a fetish for dressing up as gothic vampires and going out on ‘vampire dates’ with all the sexual innuendo that Anne Rice intended, the internet allows you to do without any judgement or restriction. And because the internet is a global phenomena, anyone and everyone from around the world is able to get in on the action, so to speak. There are no physical societies on the internet, no place where people can be ostracized and it is a space less, unlimited landscape which is not restricted by physical boundaries. Also, you can be whoever you want to be, wherever you want to be.
The internet is the place where you wildest imaginations and passions can run wild and you will more than likely find people of the same calibre online. It is really fantastic, I just did a quick one week research on the internet’s dating scene and not even halfway into my findings did I realise that there are more than 1, 000 different sorts of internet dating sites online. Anything from Hispanic dating, interracial dating, specific religious dating, state by state dating, international dating, blacks dating - you name it and they have it and we have not even gone to the categories of the unconventional or the exotic.
All sexual orientations are catered for as well, including gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and straight. While I would say there are any more categories available, I did come across some eye brow raising websites with some pretty ‘out there’ dating fetishes. But don’t look at it a compartmentalised, micro, myopia that most people would look at the online dating scene. Yes, to some, it might give people the opportunity to promote more division by creating dating sites where specific religions, races and ethnicities are allowed and the rest not. But it also is a haven to people whose interests are not widely shared or they may be living in countries where such practices may be socially unacceptable and even illegal by some standards and punishable by law. The digital sea has plenty of fish dating around, and they come from far and wide, and whatever your interests, your fetish, your needs may be, you will surely be able to find something representative, or at least something close online.
